Rascal Flatts TV Special Takes Fans on Personal Journey

If you weren't able to catch Rascal Flatts in concert during the last leg of their Nothing Like This tour, don't fret. You will be able to experience it for yourself when their first network television special, 'Rascal Flatts: Nothing Like This presented by JCPenney,' airs Saturday (March 12) at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.

The special won't be all performances, though. "We wanted to make this thing very special and try to take people on a journey of what Rascal Flatts is all about," Joe Don Rooney tells The Boot. "So we did some really good behind-the-scenes stuff with some on-camera, personality stuff with Jay, Gary and me. Getting to know us a little bit better stuff for those people who don't really know Rascal Flatts yet. The whole idea is to try to get new fans to latch on to Rascal Flatts and maybe introduce us for the first time."

"We probably had about 35 minutes of music we could get in, because you have commercials and sponsorships," he explains. "We also wanted to do some fun stuff, too, like have these special guests that just made the show much more dynamic and better."

Making a special appearance in the special will be teen heartthrob,
Justin Bieber, in a never-before-seen clip of the Flatts-Bieber video, 'That Should Be Me,' as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the video. In fact, making their debut in the clip will be Gary LeVox's two daughters, Brittany (11) and Brooklyn (7), who got to meet Justin for the first time on the set. Gary felt he had to set up a meeting with the pop star, or else, "I wouldn't have been able to go home!"

Also featured on the show will be
Natasha Bedingfield, who made a surprise appearance during the band's January concert taping in St. Paul, Minn. She joined the band for their duet, 'Easy,' which appears on Rascal Flatts' latest album, 'Nothing Like This.'

The trio saw the final edit of the special last week and were blown away by some of the shots and the great production. "You really concentrate and focus so hard to make it the best that it could be because it's a big deal to have a network special and we certainly didn't take it for granted," Gary explains. "We wanted to bring out all the bells and whistles, and brought in the best cast we could to knock it out. They captured everything we wanted to put across to the world."

Rascal Flatts will perform their latest hit, '
I Won't Let Go,' when they appear on ABC's 'Good Morning America' Thursday (March 10), followed by an appearance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo that night.
