Livin' in A Modern Family

After going on a week-long marathon of ABC's Emmy-award winning comedy series Modern Family, I am finally ready for season 2, which begins September 22nd! So bring it on, my dear adorable yet dysfunctional family!

For those who have yet to get a taste of what a modern family is about, I urge, no I implore you, try this show. It's hilarious and thought-provoking at the same time, successfully making us laugh and ponder during the 20 minutes of each episode. Basically, Modern Family tells the tale of a very large, very modern family, who are pretty open-minded about society's issues.

First we have Phil and Claire, a married couple with three children, Haley, Alex and Luke. Phil is an extremely obnoxious real estate agent, while his wife is a perfectionist stay-at-home mum. Their eldest child, Haley, is the typical teenage girl, obsessed with beauty and boyfriends. Alex, the middle child, is the geeky smart one, who relishes her chances to poke fun at her siblings. Luke, the youngest, is the embodiment of every childish kid in the world.

The next family is Jay, Claire's father, Gloria, his much younger Columbian wife and her son from a previous marriage, Manny. Jay is a grumpy and insecure man, who is constantly mistaken for Gloria's father instead of husband, due to their immense age (and size) difference. And his wife, Gloria (oh my lovely Sofia Vergara!) is a Columbian woman who came from the slums into the riches of Jay's home. Lastly we have Manny, an extremely adorable kid who does not act his age, preferring instead to woo older girls and provide witty anecdotes throughout the show.

The final family is Mitchell and Cameron, a gay couple who have been together for five years. In the beginning of the season, they adopted a Vietnamese baby girl which they named Lily. Mitchell is the hard-working man who brings home the bacon, while Cameron is the jolly stay-at-home mum (ooops dad) who obsesses over their baby.

The hilarity ensues in the interactions between all 3 families, who are so different that it's hard to imagine them coming from the same family. Modern Family pokes fun at many of society's issues such as gay marriages, a younger woman marrying a much older man, and many others. Peppered throughout are numerous cringe-inducing laugh-out-loud jokes, and the many antics of Sofia Vergara. Honestly, I simply LOVE her accent! even listening to her speak sets me off! For me, Gloria is the most entertaining character in the whole damn show!

Nevertheless, Modern Family is a good source of fun whenever you're feeling tired or stressed out after work. Watching their wacky interactions will cheer you up in no time. I honestly enjoyed watching all 24 episodes of it, and only in a few days! The only reason I started was because they won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series this year (I did the same thing for The Big Bang Theory) and I was stuck. Not as addicted to it as I was to Breaking Bad, but this show definitely merits watching.

If you don't believe me, try episode 1. Or wait for the second season to premiere and start with that.
