Alan Jackson Tops CMT's 40 Greatest Songs of the Decade


Alan Jackson's "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" topped CMT's 40 Greatest Songs of the Decade, revealed during the special's premiere on Saturday night (Nov. 13). Inspired by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Jackson debuted the song on the 2001 CMA Awards, and it spent five weeks at No. 1 in 2002, ultimately winning a Grammy.

Johnny Cash's "Hurt" ranked second on the list, followed by Brad Paisley andAlison Krauss"Whiskey Lullaby," Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel," and Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)." Kenny ChesneyLady AntebellumTim McGrawTaylor Swift andLee Ann Womack also placed songs in the Top 10.
