Ok, I finally finished reading the script of Crazy Heart and I loved it, though the ending wasn't what I wanted it to be. He achieved one of his dreams, but lost the other. This succesfully portrays the unfairness in life; how we can never get everything we want no matter what. Bad (Jeff Bridges) manages to overcome his alcoholism after losing the trust of Jean, the woman he loves when he failed to keep an eye on her four-year-old son, Buddy because he needed a drink. When he was finally found, Jean left in a fit of anger and refused to see him again.
Because of this, Bad decided to sober up to regain her trust. Sadly, she rejects him and he goes back to being a country singer. One day, at a concert where a song he wrote, Crazy Heart, became a number one, he met Jean again, but this time she has an engagement ring around her finger. She asked to interview him again, just like the very first time they met, and he agreed.
Throughout the movie, even though Bad made many poor decisions regarding his drinking problem, I still maintained a hope that he and Jean would be together in the end because they truly love each other. However, the guilt Jean felt when Bad lost her son was tremendous and led to a separation between the two. We can see that he still cares for her in the fact that he willingly let her and Buddy go, so that they could be happy with the new man in their lives.
The movie shows how love can change a man from a fumbling broke alcoholic singer into a responsible man and successful songwriter. Without the sparks that flew between them, he would not have been willing to take the steps that would change his life forever.
