Review: Zac Brown Band Concert DVD – “Pass The Jar”

Zac Brown Band’s Live Concert DVD “Pass The Jar” will be available in stores nationwide tomorrow, May 4th. The collectors edition includes the live concert DVD from the “Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta” and two CDs that include all of your favorite hits, as well as collaborations with other artists who appear with ZBB on the “Breaking Southern Ground Tour”. For country music fans, this live concert DVD is not one to miss. For music fans who were introduced to ZBB with their Grammy victory, this will give you a great look at what they are all about. When ZBB burst onto the Nashville music scene with “Chicken Fried”, they were a great candidate for becoming a one hit wonder. This is clearly not the case. The release of their album, “The Foundation” has shown an incredible amount of depth and has produced hit after hit for the band. “Pass The Jar” is an added dimension to the image that Zac Brown Band is trying to promote. Great songs have allowed ZBB to rise to the top of the country music world, but it is the amazing live performances and incredible instrumentals that set apart the six man band from the rest of Nashville. Fans who have bought their album (all 1.8 million of them) and fallen in love with their songs can now see what a ZBB live concert experience really is.

The entire DVD is a showcase of the tremendous talent of the whole band. The DVD opens with instrumentals that get fans revved up for the show to take off. The first song is a crowd favorite: “Whatever It Is”. The song quickly turns into a sing-a-long as fans get off their feet. It is difficult to pick out the highlights from the collection of songs and instrumentals that captivate crowds and our living room because every song is just so good. The Civil War memorial song, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” is sung by the lead guitarist, showing another example of how ZBB is equally talented both vocally and instrumentally. Another fan favorite, “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” is a song that you can’t skip over and is worth a listen/watch every time. Instrumentally, ZBB showed the nation at the CMA Awards in 2009 how they can rock out to the Charlie Daniel’s classic.
The first collaboration to leave a strong impression was “Trying To Drive”, featuring Aslyn. The song passionately explores the search for control within a relationship. They sounds great together. Kid Rock joins ZBB for Marshall Tucker Band’s classic “Can’t You See”. The Georgia crowd goes absolutely nuts for Kid Rock. Country music artists, Little Big town and Joey and Rory join ZBB for back to back songs providing great harmony with Zac, especially J & R with ZBB’s current single, “Free”. A Ray Charles style of “America The Beautiful” led straight into “Chicken Fried”. The crowd comes to their feet and it is great to see the patriotic moment from the boys, who have given their time to perform for our troops in the last few months. Another fantastic instrumental at the end of “Chicken Fried”. The concert closes out with band/guest introductions and the big band sounding “We’re Gonna Make This Day” completing the night with some country rap from Zac and some shocking freestyle rap from Massif (or Massive).

“Pass The Jar” is a can’t miss opportunity to get up close and personal with the great talent and songbook of Zac Brown Band. Country music fans will appreciate stories told and the behind the scenes video of this incredible event. The trailer below does not do the concert justice, but it will give fans a little taste of what they will want to go out and buy tomorrow.
