24 : Peace or Justice

Hard decision, huh? But the president picked peace, while Jack picked justice. This is going to be very interesting. Ok, let's slow down a little and explain what just happened between 9 and 10 am.

Logan managed to convince the Russian foreign minister to continue the peace process. How? By blackmailing him, Logan's classic method. He threatened to divulge the Russian's involvement in the assassination of President Hassan if they refuse to cooperate with the US in the peace process. So they agreed, but everyone forgot about Jack.

After Renee's death, Jack looks up Bazhaev at the local courthouse and threatened to kill his family if he did not reveal the people behind the attacks and Renee's murder. When he found out, Jack immediately heads back to CTU to see Dana, who apparently is the Russian's main contact in the country ie. she knows everything. But she won't talk without immunity, and Jack contacts the president to provide her with it.

However, Logan got to her first, and convinced her that peace is more important than justice. If the Russians know that they know, the peace agreement is over. Ironically, it's also what's keeping the Russians at the table. So, they're threatening the Russians with something that they won't use against them. Dumb, huh?

For the first time, I think the president is being really stupid. If the news came out, Dalia would hate her for making her sign an agreement with the people who killed her husband. but she decides to prevent that, by arresting Jack Bauer and preventing him from going near Dana. Bad idea. No one stops Jack from justice, and as a result he hijacks a helicopter from CTU. Ouch. but this time Jack's on his own, without even Chloe to count on. What will he do now?

This is an episode about bad decisions, and apparently the president makes the dumbest of them all. Obsessed with her peace agreement, she sets out to deny the Russians involvement in everything, even though she knows the truth. We can see her indecision, when she is questioned by both Jack and Ethan, but she chose to listen to Logan instead, a murderer. I mean, seriously? He quotes one line of Julius Caesar at her and she complies with his demands? She wasn't this stupid before, wonder why the writers decided to change her personality.

Now that Jack's out for justice, looks like not even the president could stop him. Only two people appear to be still on his side, Cole, Dana's cheated ex and Ethan, who disagrees with the president's decision. Will they be able to help him unveil the Russians crime in time? I hope so, though I can't imagine how a rogue helicopter would help. Even Chloe's after Jack now, because as head of CTU, she's forced to adhere to the president's unreasonable demands.

So which will stand in the end? Peace, or justice?
