The people in the alternate timeline are starting to recognise each other, and all because of Desmond. But how does he know to try to kill Locke so that he, Jack, Sun and Jin will end up at the same hospital? How did he know to bring Claire to Ilana so that she can meet up with her half-brother Jack? And why did Kate crash her car into Sawyer's, and then start flirting with him? Also, Sayid has been arrested for murder by Sawyer and Miles. Alternate reality is getting really weird.
both Sun and Locke arrive at the hospital together, and when Sun sees Locke, she freaks out. Looks like she recognized Loce, but as Smokey, because she didn't look too happy about seeing him. Later, we discover that Sun's baby is safe, even after being shot at, which must make Ji-Yeon some sort of invincible superbaby. Jack arrives to perform surgery, and he discovers that the man he is operating on is Locke.
Back on the island, Widmore attacks Smokey's camp, prompting him to retaliate by gathering his people to attack Hydra island. However, Sawyer has other plans and steals Smokey's boat, telling Jack to gather the Oceanic 6 and Lapidus so that they can all escape to Hydra island together. Claire follows them and ends up tagging along, while Jack chaanges his mind about leaving halfway across the sea because he believed they were not done with the island yet.
When the castaways arrive on Hydra, Sun and Jin have an emotional, albeit heart-pounding reunion right at the boundaries of the sonic fence. I seriously expected Sun to blow up when she reached it, but she didn't, thank god. However, Sawyer discovers that his deal with Widmore was off and the whole crew had guns pointed on them while a missile strikes Smokey's island.
Jack who has swam back to the beach and meets up with Smokey gets hit, and flung to the ground. Oddly, Smokey picks him up and carries him to safety in the jungle., telling Jack that he'd be all right because "you're with me now." At the same time, off-island, Jack is trying to save Locke's life. What does this mean?
During these last few episodes, I'm starting to find Jack a little less anoying. In fact, he seems to be channeling Locke's beliefs about the island. Believing himself to be the island's candidate, he leaps off Sawyer's boat and swims back to the island, thinking that if Smokey wants them off the island, they should stay on it instead. Looks like a bad idea because he got hit by a missile.
What's Widmore's game? Why's he back on the island? Is he trying to keep Smokey from leaving by blowing up the island and sinking it like what we saw in the pilot? But why point guns at the Losties and threaten them? Is Widmore trying to kill all the candidates so that he can be the caretaker of the island?
Lastly, did Sayid kill Desmond? From what we saw, I doubted it. He hesitated when Desmond asked himhow he would respond to his beloved's question of what he did to get her back. Until now we're still in the dark about whether Sayid meant Nadia or Shannon. Wehn he met Smokey, Sayid taunted him to "go back and check" if he disbelieved him. So I shall assume Desmond is still alive, though why he's not in the picture above is a little puzzling.
In the end, Lost still comes down as the best television show of the week. Beating all the rest (Breaking Bad not so much), I hope Lost continues on until it reaches a crescendo with an explosive ending!
